IKON: HOME OF THE SINK STATION

In 2013, Ikon introduced New Zealand to something it had never seen before: the stainless steel sink station.
Designed right here in the mighty Waikato, it was the first of its kind so new, in fact, that we patented the design. It launched as a single-bowl sink in three models, and it changed the way Kiwis think about the humble kitchen sink.
"When we launched the first sink station in 2013, we weren't just adding a bowl. We were rethinking what a kitchen sink could do. Thirteen years on, that Waikato idea is still the heart of everything we design."
A bowl within a bowl
Every kitchen renovation used to come down to the same dilemma: single bowl or double? A double gives you flexibility wash in one, rinse in the other. But to fit two bowls into a standard cupboard, each one has to be smaller, which makes washing big pots and oven trays a struggle.
The Ikon sink station solved that with one simple idea: a bowl within a bowl. You get a large, generous single bowl, plus a small insert bowl that sits inside it whenever you need a second sink. Want the full-size bowl? Take the insert out. Need two sinks? Pop it back in. All the flexibility of a double, without giving up the big bowl.
More bench space
Because one bowl generally needs a smaller cut-out than a sink with two separate bowls, the sink station takes up less of your benchtop. That means more room to prep, stack and serve before you’ve even started using the accessories.
Work on top of your sink

The real game-changer was what came with it. Every sink station included a roller mat and a wooden chopping board, turning the sink itself into extra workspace:
• Chop right over the sink with the chopping board, so scraps go straight where they belong.
• Rest hot pots directly on top using the roller mat.
• Drain, dry and rinse without cluttering the bench.
Instead of the sink being a hole in your benchtop, it became part of your work surface. It was a revolutionary idea at the time and it was designed right here in New Zealand.

A few years after that first launch, Ikon added double sink stations to the stainless range. Today, Ikon offers the biggest range of sink stations in New Zealand and it all started with one Waikato-designed bowl within a bowl.
2025: The farmhouse sink station
In 2025, Ikon added a farmhouse-style sink station to the range. Made from ceramic, it gives you the timeless look of a traditional farmhouse sink with all the added flexibility and functionality of a sink station.
2026: Another first the Pleasant Point granite sink station

This year, we’re bringing you another first: a granite sink station.
The Pleasant Point comes with all the accessories you’d expect from an Ikon sink station, plus one feature not currently offered by any major sink supplier in New Zealand: a built-in glass cleaner, positioned right within the sink.
It’s also the smart way to get a black sink that's reliable. Finishes like PVD gunmetal and black are surface coatings only, so over time, scratches in the base of the sink can show through to the stainless underneath. Granite is different the colour runs all the way through the sink, so no different colour scratches.
